How it all started...
In the early 1950s, God gave Pastor Baxter Walker a vision to start a church in an area of Fayetteville where there was no other Southern Baptist church. With the goal of reaching children and youth with the message of Jesus, a group of twenty chartered Grace Baptist Church on June 8, 1952. The church acquired some land on Raeford Rd and began holding services in a cinderblock building and then a larger structure. In just its first 13 years, the church grew to several hundred members. To accommodate this growth, the church built a 500-seat sanctuary. Its first service in the new sanctuary was October 3, 1965. For 68 years, Grace Baptist loved and served the Fayetteville community from the corner of Faison Ave and Raeford Rd. Facing debilitating storm damage from Hurricane Florence and the Raeford Rd widening project, Pastor Billy Shaw cast the vision for relocating and replanting in a new community, and the church voted to replant in November of 2018.
Expanding the vision...
In the fall of 2020, GBC purchased our new site on Fisher Rd near Lakewood Dr in Fayetteville. While the church develops this site for construction, we are holding in person services at 6415 Camden Rd, Suite 107 (near the intersection of Rockfish Rd) on Sunday mornings at 11 AM. We also have online services throughout the weekend accessible here on our site. Excited about the opportunity for the Gospel in our new community, we believe the best days are ahead. We would love to invite you to "journey with us" as God writes the future chapters of our story.
